In Maine, he has funded The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing. Due to open next month, it will be a place for cancer victims to visit and get support and information while attempting to get through a trying time.

The Center also will offer programs like massage therapy and yoga that are clinically proven to help cancer patients heal. And staff will be traveling to more rural areas to bring services to patients who may not be able to come to Lewiston. The cause is important to Dempsey because his mother, Amanda, has been successfully treated for ovarian cancer at CMMC three times. His sister, Mary, also works there.

I was wondering why he would do such a thing and seeing how his family was so heavily affected by the disease, I know understand. What a wonderful way to give back to his community.

I think that it’s very important for anybody going through cancer treatment today is just to have a person there, so you’re not being treated like a number and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”
