Friends Is Coming To The Big Screen!

Posted on July 02, 2008 at 3:03 PM

How exciting! The mega hit TV series Friends has been given the green light to be made into a movie. Apparently seeing the success of the Sex and the City movie made people a little bit more eager to get this thing rolling.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will begin filming sometime within the next 18 months.

"As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can’t help
but look at what’s happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And
The City film and be a little jealous.

‘What’s held back a
Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had
simply become too famous to play Rachel again. But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and
she’d love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again."

Courteney and Jen will be the backbone behind the project if they can work out the financial aspect.

"She
says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they
want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them,
everything else can fall into place rather quickly. It really comes down to money, and I don’t think Jen has a problem with all of the Friends getting huge paydays for the movie.

In
that sense, it’s Sex And The City all over again. There’s no movie
unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy
financially."

Let’s hope this is true…I would love to watch a Friends movie!

  1. I think this is an AWFUL idea! Friends was a great show, but there is nothing about it that translates to the big screen. Sex and the City worked because it was a sexy show with fabulous clothes and depictions of real New York City life. The NYC on Friends was cheesy and generic. And since most of the Friends are married with kids, it would be ludicrous to have the six of them hanging out for hours on end in the coffee shop, which is kind of what the show was based around. So if this rumour is true, and it pans out, I’ll be curious to see what they come up with, but I’ll be surprised if it’s anything more than mildly entertaining. Oh — and I agree with the others who say Jennifer Aniston has nothing to worry about in terms of ruining her supposedly illustrious film career. She’s never anyone but Rachel in anything anyway!

  2. “Somehow she thinks she is up there with the REAL actors” – ahem, if directors and producers wouldn’t think she’s there with the “real” actors, then Jennifer Aniston wouldn’t be in any movie. What a load of bollocks to say. I personally will watch the movie, after all, I’m a big Friends’ fan, and THEN I will judge the actors performances and if I like the film. Not beforehand!

  3. Loved Friends, but not so sure about a movie. Like one passerby said…hope they have good writers!

  4. Derailed is the only movie of hers that I liked. And I agree, she didn’t play Rachel in that movie.

  5. It’s going to blow big time. Jennifer can not do any other character. Since she is so desperate now. She will go back. No way will I bother.

  6. i love friends but i don’t think making a movie is a good idea.. i think it’s better to leave it as it is now.

  7. i agree with you sunshine! i loved the show, but making it into a movie sounds a wee bit pathetic. i think b/c i now think aniston is pathetic:)

  8. I guess the cast is desperate. For years they were dead set against doing a reunion show or movie. But since everybody’s movie and tv career has failed they need something to stay relevant. I agree that I don’t think Friends would translate well as a movie. I just can’t imagine what a movie would be like since the shows storylines are very simple.

  9. I dont think that its right to insult Jennifer Aniston, she is a very succesful actress and isnt desperate. I dont think a movie is really necessary though, I think they ended it so well, but Im not really against it either.

  10. Jennifer aniston is the biggest celebrity out of all of them and she’s worth over 100 million I hardly thinks she’s desperate.

  11. OH MY GOD!(JENNA STYLE)LOL
FRIENDS ..THE MOVIE??????? THAT’LL BE HUGEEEE SINCE THE LAST EPISODE I’VE BEEN CRAZY ABOUT A COME BACK! BUT A MOVIE ILL BLOW US AWAY…..I LOVE JENNIFER AND COURTNEY AND ALL THE CAST THEY ARE THE BEST
    FRIENDS SHOULD HAVE NEVER ENDED….

    JENNIFER YOU ARE THE BEST!

  12. Jennifer always play Rachel, thats the only role she can play. Every movie she makes, its Rachel. Shes one of the most overrated actress, and Firends overrated too. It was fun some years, but the show should have stop long time before…!!!ANd all the others friends never made it too as movie star. Hope for them they GEt good script!

  13. I have all the seasons of Friends, and Lisa Kudrow is my fave of the six. Hopefully this movie will be awesome!

  14. Jennifer’s love life made her a celeBrity. Shes the most famous cause shes been with Brad Pitt. Not for her Talent.

  15. Oh God no…
How would that even work? Friends was a sitcom, with a live studio audience providing laughter with every punchline, it would never translate on the big screen.

  16. I love Friends. I have been waiting for a movie inc the series ended. I knew it wouldn’t be long after Sex & the City. I say it is about time.

  17. I like Jennifer Aniston and all of the “Friends” cast. I believe the movie would be worth seeing. I really wish people would quit comparing Jennifer to Angelina though and let the Brad/Angelina/Jen thing go. It’s been several years now and people are still talking about it and taking sides. I blame the gossip magazines for that though, but regardless, it’s time to move on.

  18. Most overrated show ever. If Jennifer does this, she will forever be known as Rachel. As if she already isn’t. Bad career move.

  19. I liked the series, but I don’t know if I’m really excited about the idea of seeing it on the big screen.

  20. I’d go see it. I loved Friends and seriously would never have tired of it. LOL :) I’d be thrilled with a movie or just bring the darn series back already!!! They have a lot of storyline to work with since Chandler & Monica were moving into a new house, etc.

  21. I loved friends, but like a previous commenter, I don’t think that Jen is a “movie star”. She cannot carry a blockbuster picture, like Angelina, yeah, I said it.

  22. She’s been good in a few movies, like the good girl and the breakup. I’m not sure how excited I am about a friends movie though, I don’t know why. I was so excited about the sex in the city movie, but friends just isn’t doing it for me. I love the show, so I’m don’t know why.

  23. I love Jennifer Aniston! I cant wait to see this movie! They better make it so Ross and Rachel get married or something!!

  24. Does anyone know who makes this necklace that Jen has been wearing all over? thanks for any help!! Kathleen

  25. I guess Jen is finally willing to do it, because every other project she’s been in has tanked. People don’t care for her, unless she’s “Rachel”, and a good (movie) actress she’s not.

  26. I was a huge fan of the show, but the thought of a movie makes me nervous. I hope they get good writers for the script. As for the bit that people were “worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again” — that’s pretty funny considering Jennifer plays Rachel in everything she’s in.

  27. “Jennifer can’t help but look at what’s happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous.” …..Come on, like she’d be “jealous”. Must have came from a “close friend source”.

  28. The series was fine, loved the characters (all of them), and Jennifer was fine on the “small screen” but on the “big screen”, Jennifer is merely adequate. Somehow she thinks she is up there with the REAL actors. Sorry Jen, you are a small screen gal ~ nothing more, nothing less.

  29. I think a Friends movie would be rather popular…. I had quite a few, um, friends who were HUGE fans when it was still airing new episodes.
