I know it's not celebrity related... but I had to share. Starbucks has announced that due to poor sales, they will have to close down a few hundred stores.
Mr. T said: I used to buy Starbucks in 5 lb. bags in Sam's Club. I stopped buying their product after they kept raising the prices. My wife and I do enjoy good coffee but frankly, Starbucks is expensive compared to equally good products such as Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Still, I'd hate to see our local Starbucks disappear as I do like to take my daughter and my wife there from time to time just to have coffee and talk inside the cafe.
Kyle said: When gas costs go up and people are pinching pennies, what's the first thing to go? Of course it's expensive coffee. I think sometimes we forget that those frappucinos are a luxury, not a necessity!
Anyways, I don't think the company is hurting too bad, seeing as how I'm pretty sure all 600 stores they are closing in the U.S. seem to be opening in Chile, where I live. There are now 4 within a 4 block radius where I live. And this is a third world country people! It's kind of ridiculous, really.
Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff :)
Bella (not verified) said: Does that mean there will be 86,000 stores left in the continental United States? We are just at the end of a fad...yes its horrible, but the truth is that they were well beyond saturated in the U.S., and world, markets.
Amy said: I also used to go to Starbucks, but it just started to get so expensive that I quit going unless I had a coupon. I now just make my own coffee concoction at home for a lot cheaper. I live in a new up and coming neighborhood and in the last 2 years 3 new Starbucks have opened up within 2 miles of my house. I'm sure at least one of them is on the chopping block.
Passerby (not verified) said: I wonder if they figure that their poor sales at some locations have to do with their oversaturation of the market! There's one on practically every corner in NYC (ok, not really...but close).
I love me some Starbucks, have my personalized starbucks card, and a reusable stylish washable insulated sleeve. Yep, I am a hardcore, card carting fan but I do think they need to close a few and get back to being more specialty than ordinary.
Elaine said: I was in Seattle this past weekend. I think it is the only place on earth where you can stand on the street corner next to Starbucks and have another one across the street. It always cracks me up.
Irishgal (not verified) said: Not surprising. Starbucks is too expensive! There are loads in Dublin now but I rarely get coffee there. It is a rip off!!!
gcguy said: You know, I used to say it's too expensive, etc. It's not that bad. It's gets pricey when you get caramel-mocha-chino-lattes with 1/2 caff/skim blah blah. I love the 'Buck, but there are too many. It's too mainstream now...Barnes and Noble, Stop and Shop (supermarket), Target, hotels, airports, etc. It's losing some of its cache. I think this is part of the plan to bring back some exclusivity to the brand.
Savage said: I admit, I love my starbucks. Bt I do agree with it being slighly over priced, and they ARE crowding our towns. At one of our malls, we have FOUR. Do we really need four?! In a shopping center down the street, we have two. Granted one is in a Target which I dont mind, since I do all my shopping there, but do we need two with in 100 feet of each other?!
blak_cat said: they're not only overpriced, but their coffee is soo awful tasting! i'm just waiting for when they close down 600 more! i much prefer the local coffee shops - they put more love into their coffee (:

they should let britney out again. she can probably keep 80 stores open just by herself.
Haha, finally. Overpriced!

Wouldn't it have been a better solution to simply lower the prices a litte?
how sad. im a fan. one of my best friends is a manager of one here in miami.
well no wondering it's costs so god damn much that's why i never go to star bucks
