Amy Winehouse Placed On House Arrest

It's official. Amy Winehouse is on lock down. Her recording label has finally put their collective foot down and hired security to keep Amy at home and sober. Has Island Records gone too far? Or are they the first people to do something right?

"Effectively, Amy’s been put under house arrest. She is being monitored by 24/7 surveillance to make sure she’s behaving herself and keeping out of harm’s way.

"There is also a security guard stationed outside her house around the clock to vet any undesirables. From now on, there’ll be no more waifs and strays (random people) coming into her place, wreaking havoc.

"Crucially, they don’t want known drug dealers coming anywhere near her. Amy has to give them names of people expected. Anyone who turns up uninvited will be sent packing. It’s for her own good."

This is a grown woman...house arrest? c'mon man. I could see if she was under age, but if this girl doesnt have enough sense to sober up and live her life then ,its her loss. It doesnt matter if her record company put her on house arrest, or that she cant get out, people can get in and give her drugs. SHE needs to stop herself, she's too old for a babysitter.

You have no idea how difficult it is to get off of drugs. It takes over your common sense and willpower. I think this is a great step and I wish everyone had the money to be able to afford this kind of treatment if they can't help themselves.

Thank God for that. It's about time. I am frankly a bit sick of hearing about Amy Winehouse and her drug use. She's now more known as a junkie than as a singer which is very sad as she's incredibly talented.

Anyone being held against their will is wrong. Amy is a complete wreck, i agree. Although, this would not be allowed in the US. I do not know the laws of the U.K. but, this wouldn't be possible in the US without a judge or some sort of medical deal. I agree with what Passerby (first comment) says..she HAS to do this herself. If she doesn't care, then leave her to her chosen fate.

Who said anything about her not caring? Drugs are called "addictive" for a reason. She's tried to do this by herself. She needs the help and support of other people.

It's good it's happening, but that's something her PARENTS should've done a long time ago.

finally! maybe that'll help her..did you ever see a pic of amy before she was all drugged up? it's really sad..she was quite pretty http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2006/07/winehouse270706_544x600.jpg http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7320/amyb4after2ob1.jpg

I applaud the record company for taking a stand, but to hold someone prisoner is not the way. Winehouse is too old for a babysitter. Personally, if this happened to me, I'd be embarrassed, and angry. This will probably set her further back!

I think she needs it, but for a record label to act like a parent? That's ridiculous. The ONLY reason they are doing it is because they want to make more money off of her. Do you think if she wasn't selling albums they would be doing this? Hell no, they'd have kicked her to the curb LOOOOONNNNGGGGGG ago. She needs help for sure, but I don't think it should be a RECORD company making those decisions.

Is this even legal? I mean, I know it's for her own good, but come on!

theres nothing that says she doesnt agree with it...we know shes co-operating with the security so maybe she realises she needs it. sounds to me like there doing her a favour saving her life, her money her carrer and at the same time getting what they need.

Sounds to me like the record company is just trying to protect THEIR investment.

I agree. She is not under "house arrest" in the true legal sense. Noone can have that happen unless ordered by a court. It is more likely the record company threatening her that if she doesn't accept this supposedly altruistic setup, she will lose her deal and hence no more money. The flip-side is the record company also loses the money she can generate for them.

There should be NO debate---someone is being proactive to save this beast's life....

Well, hopefully nothing but good will come of this. I hope it does save her life!

Maybe this is why she was under 'house arrest', she had a concert in Madrid yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krh_ookbVQc
