The thief who stole Kirsten Dunst’s handbag during a hotel raid has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail. Jarrod Beinerman, 34, broke into the penthouse suite of New York’s SoHo Grand Hotel while Dunst was staying there last year. He admitted illegally entering the hotel suite and taking Dunst’s $13,000 Marc Jacobs purse.
Beinerman insisted he never meant to target the actress, who was in NY filming upcoming movie How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. He has been ordered to undergo drug treatment and will be sentenced for a drug charge on September 10.
Wow! 4 years. But I guess they got him on tresspassing, drug and theft charges.

That's ridiculous ! He's done barely nothing. And that's so unfair ! I mean, a girl I know was raped lately by a friend of her brother, and the guy only has two years to spend in prison. And then a little thief has 4,5 years ? Come on ! It should be the opposite (and the raper should take waaaay more, but you know).
barely nothing? i'm sorry about your friend and the court's system on rapists (i agree that it's completely unfair), but you can't say that this guy deserves nothing. it's not unfair that he spend 4 years in prison. he broke into a fancy hotel and stole over $10,000 worth of stuff. that's a LOT.
odd...that sentence is quite harsh... maybe its not his first offense, so the court is taking that into consideration. people who rape & murder have been given comparable sentences...i am sure he couldnt afford an attorney if he was a thief.
Well they might have also gotten him on different offences rather than one. We don't know the full story, but off what is here I think it seems quite harsh too. Typically if you can't afford an attorney one will be given to you and there are lots of people who take cases pro-bono. My question is really who needs a $13,000 purse? That is as much as some people (students, ect.) make in a year. To me that is an offence. It is a purse made of material with a name on it. Come on...there are more important things to spend money on.
You can't be certain she payed for the handbag. Designers shower famous people with merchandise, hoping the celebrity will wear it out in public, get photographed with it and give the fashionhouse a lot of great publicity. They want to appeal to certain people and pick the celebs thereafter. I know celebs shop a lot, but they do get a lot of stuff for free as well. I would assume handbags are commonly give out a lot, seeing as they're so easily recognized.
I doubt he knew the purse was worth $13,000 though.
Actually, he didn't just steal from her. There were a bunch of peoples' stuff in there (including her co-star Simon Pegg's) because it was a common room for people working on the movie in the hotel, not her personal room. My guess would be that he stole enough to get 4 years based on a cash-value scale.
well, there are kids that break into our homes here in atlanta and they don't even take them to jail when they get caught. i guess we're not famous enough to matter.
I agree. That seems rather harsh for one B&E. Must be more to this sentencing then reported.
"Must be more to this sentencing then reported." Jan, you can probably safely bet your bottom dollar on that!
I love it! If you're a celebrity and do something reckless (a lot are getting caught for dui's lately) the court systems lets you off with "Rehab" or maybe AA. But steal from a celebrity and you get four years! Disgusting... I really hope that this isn't for a first offense that would be even worse.
Please, do you not know what good lawyers can accomplish...money fixes everything today! Now you tell me why this is wrong...b/c it is!
