Thandie Newton was offered a part in Charlie's Angels. She turned it down and said she didn't think it would have been a good idea to become that famous.
"In career terms it was a platinum opportunity. Or, as my agent put it, 'a one-two punch'.
I was going to do it for about 24 hours. But then I woke up and it just didn't feel right. It would have meant entering that virtual world of stardom, but I'd been away from home for nine months (filming Mission: Impossible II) and it would have meant another six months away."
Her agent and manager were NOT happy with her decision, so much so that they soon parted ways with her.
"They were appalled. They thought I was committing career suicide."
An actor who doesn't want to be famous? Now that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

Sounds like she is trying to keep her feet on the ground. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the outfit.
she always looks so gorgeous...i think she doesnt want to be away from her family so much.
I don't agree that it's an oxymoron. I think there are plenty of actors who just love to act and are not in it for the fame and fortune. I myself am a singer and people have told me for years I should be famous, but I don't want to be. I don't want to make the sacrifices necessary. I'm fine with playing the local club and doing it just because I love it!
Girly girl - I totally understand where you are coming from. I am a singer too - though I am out of the game right now unfortunately, and it seems like everyone thinks you should want to go be famous. Hollywood is so soulless and sends horrible messages to all of society - I don't think I could ever stand to be apart of it. I would like wearing the clothes, that's for sure, but to have to sell my soul to be a part of that club of superficiality, I couldn't do it.
Well it must have worked because I have NO IDEA who she is!!!
Lots of great actors have turned down roles in films that they have regretted, including Sean Connery to play Gandolf in the LOTR trilogy. Then you have actors who have chosen roles wisely, such as Sir Alec Guiness in Star Wars. He chose to receive a percentage of the profits instead of a flat sum fee for his contribution in the film. Wisely done Obi-Wan. I like Thandie, she's smart, sexy and not too over the top. I enjoyed her in the Chronicles of Riddick.
oh my, I love her whole outfit. Brightly printed dresses are here to stay!
If it feels right for her, than good for her. There are other priorities in life besides money and fame-whoring but some people will never understand that. She's already very famous and incredibly successful as it is.
