New Kids On The Block Concert At Nassau Coliseum

New Kids On The Block Concert At Nassau Coliseum

My camera was TERRIBLE last night. I started to hand out business cards in the middle of the set to girls around me who were taking better pictures because I was desperate. But I can't wait for them to email me the shots. I just can't! I have to tell you all about how GREAT the NKOTB concert was at Nassau Coliseum.

Yes, I went to see the New Kids on the Block last night. Yes, I am 30 years old. No I am not ashamed to admit it. I had a BLAST. IF they are coming to your town (or in driving distance), grab as many friends as you can and BUY TICKETS. I literally was on my seat dancing and singing away like I was 14 years old again.

The morning of I felt so weak for having tickets. I was almost upset that my husband bought them for me. I was pretending to be excited for him because he got me 8th row which I know were a pretty penny. Even when we rode up, I was like... yeah, we are here.

But when they came on stage, my tune changed. I saw what I fell in love with so long ago. I mean, 15 years ago! That is WILD! But here we all are again and yes, we've grown up. And yes, we've aged. But it didn't matter.

Here's the quick breakdown for those of you who are interested to know how these boys grew up.

  • Danny is still very much in the background.
  • Jon, who has admitted to severe stage fright, sang nothing but the occassional harmony. However he danced every set with the group. Shy as can be. But so handsome!
  • Joey is no longer the baby in the group. He completely held his own and has joined the two main stars front and center. He still has a great voice.
  • Jordan is a TROOPER. I didn't realize how many songs he completely carried! And that falsetto he does has to hurt at the end of the day. He worked the hardest on stage and really brought together the whole thing. He really was the main talent of the day.
  • Donnie is L-O-V-I-N-G everything about the reunion. He would just stand in front of everyone and look at the audience who would just scream as he stood there. He danced the hardest, connected with the audience the most, flirted, pointed, brought the most energy. He is so happy to be back and that is very obvious.

Overall,

  • I loved how every now and then someone would say, "Is this happening?" or "I can't believe we are doing this!" It really felt special to them too which was nice.
  • The audience was eruptive. I've been to at least 30 concerts and never once did the screaming litereally go through my body. I walked out with a migraine... which was fine considering I had the time of my life.
  • They can't dance. But they know they can't dance and you can see them laughing about the steps which made it ok that they had no rhythm. In fact, I enjoyed the whole show more because of it.
  • The concert dance moves are literally the same moves from 1988. Literally the same concert. So if you have an old video from pay per view in the 80s, pop it in the VCR to see what I saw.
  • Their new songs were actually known word by word. I was SHOCKED at how many people were new fans.

This is a long one people. So, click on the continue reading link below to read the rest of the story.

I wasn't going to write this part... but what do I have to hide really? There were about three moments when I found myself about to cry. I was star struck, excited, grateful, elated, and overjoyed to be part of it all. I mean, when Joey began to sing, "Please Don't Go Girl"... I had to catch my breath.

With this job, I get to go to some cool things. And I've come across a few celebrities in my time, none of which was the least bit exciting to me. I literally couldn't stop smiling at this concert, because the New Kids on the Block represent a much easier time for me. A time when all I had to worry about was how many socks I could wear at once and still be able to fit in my sneaker. And seeing them last night on stage brought me back to that simpler time.

Long story short - GO SEE THE NEW KIDS. You will be SO UPSET if you were a fan and miss this reunion tour.

Vera, I literally had chills reading this and I'm actually a little choked up. I am 30 years old and as a kid, I went to ELEVEN New Kids concerts. I'm getting to go again when they come here to Dallas on October 19 - my birthday is October 6 so HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me! I'm going with 4 other girls and we're meeting about another dozen before the concert that are going as well. One of the girls I'm going with was a girl I went with as a child. It's going to be amazing and I simply cannot wait! Thanks for the info and the pics. I'm so jealous you got 8th row. :(

I was at the show at nassau coliseum & I must say...'When I took my daughter years back to see Backstreet Boys & N'Sync, the teenage girls didn't scream 1/2 as loud as ALL the grown women did last night!' I've seen many shows over the years, but none of them had sooooo much energy! It was truly AMAZING, what an AWESOME show!!! And to think, I was almost upset about the amount of money it cost for my ticket...but after seeing them, it was well worth it!!!

I've been waiting to hear about how much fun you had! I'm so glad you felt it was worth it. Last night the crowd was even more intense than the night before at the Izod Center. All the girls near me were standing on their chairs and dancing -- and no one even yelled at us! So much fun! I truly hope they have a live DVD version in the works cause I would watch it and relive the concert over and over!

I have to say that last night was above any expectation I ever had. I've loved the New Kids since I was 11 (I'm 30 now) and always wanted to go to a show. Last night I fulfilled a childhood dream and it was beyond anything I could have imagined. The energy was totally outrageous, they were great & looked so truely grateful for their chance on stage again. Anyone who passes up the chance to see them is CRAZY! Donnie looks better than ever, they all do!!! Definitely a MUST see!!!!

I bought tickets for my daughter to go see them in Toronto last weekend. She's 34 and went with the same friend she went with 15 years ago. They had a blast.

I agree with ShanaBananaYo. This is my favorite post of yours about the New Kids on the Block! My favorite part was when you said "when they came on stage, my tune changed. I saw what I fell in love with so long ago." This is the exact sentiment I have been waiting to hear. Critics are always prejudgine them before they've even seen their show and it really shows how much backlash still exists these days! To all the self-proclaimed music experts/reviewers/professional journalists/professional critics/cynics/bloggers/haters/non-believers/nay-sayers/non-NKOTB BSB fans/pop players/DJs/former fans/new fans/fairweather fans/neutral population/categorized as "Other"/those who think the reunion is funny, ridiculous, unnecessary, bound to fail, stupid, or lame/those who just plain don't "get it," go to the show and "GET IT!"

I went to see them at their second Toronto show last Friday with my sisters and one of my sister's friends. We had an absolute blast. Vera, everything you said in this post pretty much summed up how I felt. I am 25 and on the younger side of the old fanbase. When I was a kid my oldest sister, Leigh Anne (who is about a year older than you) and her friend, Kelly, went together and my other sister, Julie, and I were so upset we couldn't go. I remember my LA and Kelly painting their signs in our garage and just wishing I was going but tickets were so hard to come by and my parents were only able to get them for her and a friend. LA and Kelly haven't been in touch in years. Julie got NKOTB tix for her b-day from her husband and asked the two of us to go. LA called Kelly up and invited her for old times sake so it was a reunion for them as well 15 years later. So awesome. My biggest emotion was nostalgia. It was so strong it was comforting. Back to a time when my life was so easy and innocent! AHHHH I loved it!! Sorry this is a huge comment but, as you know, this concert just has a giant impact!!! The funniest part was that Kelly kept her sign all these years and brought it with her and surprised us. Donnie and Jordan were my faves back then and they both did an amazing job as did Joe. I have never screamed or danced so hard at a concert. I am a huge rock and alternative fan and have been to great concerts in those genres but I have to say that this is the best concert I have ever been to! I could go on and on....

OMG OMG OMG....i went to their show when they came to Toronto. At first, i was hesitant to go....because i thought that they would do things more modern...and they would ruin my childhood memories. Instead, it was the opposite....it was soooo nostalgic. I had never been to a show....it took me 15 years to go.....and man oh man, i'm so glad i went. i guess i will forever be a NKOTB fan.........and my ulimate favourite was Tonight and Step by Step. I <3 Jordan!!
