Jennifer Hudson got the “biggest surprise” of her life when boyfriend David Otunga asked her to be his wife on her 27th birthday during a day at the beach.

“It was a big deal… I got a beautiful ring and I got him. I had no clue at all… We went to the beach during the day and he blindfolded me… and he gave me a purple shovel, because purple’s my favourite colour… and I had to dig.

“I ended up digging through all this sand. When I found it, it was like a bunch of beautiful cards… one related to the other, and the last one said, ‘Look around, take the moment in, turn around and I have a gift for you.’”

Hudson showed off her stunning new ring on America’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Friday (26Sep08), where she revealed her husband-to-be is “a beautiful guy”, before boasting, “He’s an attorney, he went to Harvard Law School.”

That’s sweet and very creative!! Anyone have any creative engagement stories?

  1. isn’t her beau a bit skeevy? One wrong turn can really make a difference in a career that has just begun. She should be careful.

  2. I liked him on that show, he was cute. My concern is wasn’t she engaged before him to her high school sweetheart? It sounds like she needs to keep dating and find out what all the world has to offer.

  3. My husband proposed me at Giant’s Causeway in Ireland. Most beautiful spot in the world. However, no digging or anything, that’d be too much. Just a simple question. I find it so much more enjoyable when it’s simple.
