Last night at the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala, John Mayer presented Taylor Swift with the Hal David Starlight award, which he himself won back in 2006. He shared his experience working with Taylor on their duet:

I’d always ask everyone who has ever worked with her ‘who is actually writing those songs?” said John, “I got the chance to one night ask her. We sat down, started playing guitars, and  she writes those songs. I’ve never seen a more fearless creator.”

After giving Taylor the award, she shared:

I started writing when I was 14, she says. I sort of had two lives down in Nashville. I would go to school and then write at night. I always wanted to be one of those people who wrote hooks that got stuck in your head. For me, writing was an escape from reality where I have to say the exact right thing at the exact right time. I”m much more likely to say ‘I miss you’ or ‘I love you’ in a song rather than in person. The only downside is the delay in saying what you want to say.

I think it’s great that she really writes her own material. So often we hear about artists who “buy” their way onto the credits to make it look like they were part of the writing team.

John has been SO quiet since he deleted his Twitter account. Did any of you really think he’d stick to his guns with this “silence” for this long?

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were spotted packing up their car today for what looks like a weekend getaway.

I wonder if they take the nannies along for a family vacation? Or maybe she and Matthew were leaving the kids with sitters and taking a little “couple retreat” together. Wouldn’t that be nice?

How old were your kids before you left them for a weekend away? I know some people who don’t leave their kids for any overnights at all.

Halle Berry was spotted in Los Angeles today making a stop at Frends Beauty Salon to grab a few items.

There’s still no word on a release date for Halle’s film “Frankie and Alice”, which previewed at Cannes this year. She does have another project listed on IMDB called Dark Tide:

A thriller centered on a diving instructor who returns to deep waters after a near-fatal encounter with a Great White shark.

I’m anxious to see Halle back on the big screen. It’s been three years since her last movie, ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’.

Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman enjoyed a dinner out together last night at BOA Steakhouse in Los Angeles.

Christina is probably enjoying a little down time – she has been busy promoting her album and finishing up her first movie “Burlesque” (due out in November). She also sang the national anthem at game 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals this week.

Back in April I told you about the rumors circulating that Kristen Stewart was being eyed for the lead in ‘Wanted 2′. In an interview with MTV, she chatted about whether or not she’d consider following in Angelina Jolie’s footsteps:

Yes. Definitely, as long as it was good, she told MTV News. Wanted was a great movie “ James McAvoy makes that movie different than most other action movies because hes a real guy, and I feel like most action movies dont have that.

Its weird to answer questions like this,she said. The only two projects that Im confirmed in now are On The Road and Breaking Dawn 1 and 2.

In July’s issue of Elle Magazine Sheryl Crow talks about the ways her priorities have shifted since her son Wyatt was born.

He changed my life completely, the songstress, 48, confesses of son Wyatt Steven, 3. Ive really put roots down with him. His happiness is my priority.

Sheryl has converted her NYC loft into a more family-friendly place. She shares that it’s the first place she bought and it has special meaning to her.

This was the first place I ever bought, and it has always been special for me,” Crow, 48, tells the July issue of Elle of her apartment, in the NoHo area of the city. “I loved the years when I lived here fulltime. Everybody in this building either grew up here or raised their kids here, and you can just tell that this is a place that has held a lot of life and a lot of good memories.”

Sheryl also shared one thing she’s learned about being a mom:

One thing Ive learned about children and antiques is that you just have to let go, she admits.

Too true. It’s hard to own fragile things like that with toddlers running rampant!
