Did Jessica Simpson Buy Her Own Engagement Ring?

Rumor has it that Jessica Simpson forked over $100,000 to help Eric Johnson pay for her engagement ring. Sources are claiming the NFL star wouldn’t have been able to handle such a high price tag on his own.
“No way could Eric, who doesn’t have a job at the moment, afford to purchase such an expensive ring,” a friend of Jessica’s tells me. “Yes, he made a little bit of money in the NFL and is from a wealthy family, but unless his parents helped him out, Jessica must have paid for it herself.”
Call me crazy, but don’t NFL stars make a pretty penny? Sure Jessica Simpson makes more (a lot more), but that doesn’t mean that Eric Johnson couldn’t afford the engagement ring on his own!

“First, we find out that Jessica doesn’t want to have a prenup, and now we find out that she might have paid for her own ring. It just doesn’t feel right to me,” a family friend tells me. “We all want Jessica to be happy and finally find true love after all she has been through, but she doesn’t understand that in the long run if she pays for everything it will hurt her relationship with any man.”
Let’s just assume that Jessica DID pay for the ring. Is it that big of a deal? She’s a ga-zillionaire. Yes, that’s a made up word.

He’s a former NFL player, not a current one. And given that he has no job and never finished college, it’s unlikely he could pony up the cash for a ring.
He played in the NFL for 7 yrs I’m sure he made plenty of cash. And I’m not sure where you are getting your info from but he infact did graduate from Yale.
That’s what I thought when I first heard the news about the engagement and the $100,000 ring.
he’s not even close to an nfl star and never was – he was probably making league minimum for a couple years – which wouldn’t buy a ring like that unless he didn’t spend a penny of what he earned…he’s a loser and she’s a bigger one (literally)
Who needs such an expensive ring? This shows that people are always more concerned about impressing others. That’s sad, you help buy your own ring just to show off? That’ssad Jessica.
His family lives near me and they are VERY Wealthy, who are we to say how much money he has? He could have inherited a fortune, or invested his money and made a fortune.. why is everyone so quick to judge? And even if she did pay for 1/2 or all of it who cares?
i’m sure its her that asked him not the other way around….she’s desperate! how sad is that.
League minimum is $285k; plus, he likely has an inheritance. He graduated from Yale and was enrolled at Wharton (this country’s top B school) so I’m guessing he could figure out how to swing $100k on a ring. If Jess bought her own it’d have been more, I am guessing.
Eric’s soon to be ex-wife is quoted on record as saying, “Eric is plain out of money. He was going to go to grad school because he didn’t know what else to do, and then he just dropped out. He lived with me until October of last year, but now I think he’s living in her house.”
Jessica Simpson is a pathetic person. Every guy she dates is “the one.” Tony Romo jumped ship before the Barbie theme birthday party!
I guess the whole Prince William / Kate Middleton thing has probably hit that household by now.
Her: “I bet she didn’t have to help him by that rock!”
Him: “Are you kidding me, he got it for free?!?!”
