What recession? Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen launched their handbag line in Paris and Ashley shared that the first thing to fly off the shelves is their new $39,000 backpack!
“It was the first thing that sold off the shelf. During our last economic crisis in the U.S., the only thing that went up was Hermes.”
Barneys’ fashion director says that the luxury bag is an investment:
“If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that’s the bag you should buy. There’s enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags — and I think you also might be the only one who has it.”
Wow. I know I shouldn’t be shocked because I’m sure the celebs aren’t suffering too bad in this economy. But, $40k for a bag? That’s like 1/2 the cost of a home for some people!
