Rather than hitting the beach, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas are ringing in the New Year in snowy Aspen. I bet that’s as much fun as the beach, especially if you like skiing and snowboarding.

But Melanie’s hat is what really caught my attention here. What do you think of it? I’m not sure I’d typically choose to wear a hat like that, but it looks like a good thing to wear in the spirit of vacation and having fun.

‘Extra’ host Maria Menounos looks like she’s enjoying her Miami vacation, rocking one bikini after another on the beach. I don’t blame her: she looks amazing!

Maria and boyfriend Kevin Undergaro had fun in the water as well as on the beach. Maria’s going to come back to work in 2012 relaxed and rejuvenated.

This year, it seems like the ‘Jersey Shore’ cast has decided to do their own events instead of the big one all of them got together to do on New Years Eve last year (although they may all plan to get together tonight: I don’t know, but I’m guessing it won’t be in Times Square).

The Situation worked the red carpet at the Chateau Nightclub and Gardens at the Paris Hotel and Casino along with Good Charlotte (Joel and Benji Madden). Ronnie Magro-Ortiz was on the red carpet at the Gallery Nightclub at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. DJ Pauly D, meanwhile, was at Vanity Nightclub. Bet he was spinning all night!

Besides having to deal with a death hoax right before the holidays (which, I have to say, he handled with with great humor), Jon Bon Jovi seems like your typical family guy: Christmas in New Jersey and New Years in St. Barts.

(Okay, so maybe the St. Barts vacation reveals that he has a little more money in the bank than the typical family guy ).

Elisabetta Canalis may be single (or she and Mehcad Brooks just had a big fight), but it looks like the animal lover is preparing for love: she’s reading the book ‘Cosmic Coupling‘ (an astrology book about how the different signs from the zodiac match up). Maybe she’s considering a new prospect .

Selma Blair was spotted doing some shopping yesterday afternoon. Have you checked out any of the post-Christmas/New Year sales? There are some great deals out there, if you don’t mind going through a lot of leftover merchandise!

It looks like Selma was serious about her shopping: she left the baby and her fiance at home. Sometimes, that’s how you’ve gotta do it if you want to stay focused .
