Lea Michele Changed Her Name Due To Bullies
Posted on December 08, 2011 at 12:00 PM
‘Glee’ star Lea Michele was actually born Lea Sarfati, but she says bullies at school teased her so badly that she dropped it when she started auditioning. Lea explained to Jay Leno:
“Sarfati. That’s my real last name. I don’t use it a lot because I got ‘Lea So-fatty’, ‘Lea So-farty’ at school. So when I was little and I went on my first audition they were like, ‘And may we have your name,’ and I was like, ’Lea Michele’. And I’ve been Lea Michele ever since.
“It’s Sephardic, which is Spanish/Jew.”
It’s easy to forget just how difficulty bullying is for kids to handle, isn’t it?
