Alicia Silverstone Pre-Chews Her Son’s Food (Video)

Posted on March 28, 2012 at 11:02 AM

The latest video that vegan advocate Alicia Silverstone posted to her website, ‘The Kind Life,’ has people buzzing this morning. She took a video and wrote this caption to explain it:

I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine…

Some people find it very… unpleasant that Alicia actually took a mouthful of food, chewed it up, and then fed it directly into her son’s mouth. Others argue it’s not a big deal. It’s tough being a mom in the public eye: so much scrutiny!

  1. I respect her beliefs, but this is plain gross. Feeding your children healthy food/snacks is something I stronly believe in and is part of our home. No junk food, candy, soda, anything gluten, but feeding my kids chewed up food from my mouth is just something I see no reason to do. Not sure that I undestand how anyone can benefit from that or how is that making what they kid is eating any healthier?!

  2. As gross as it is, to each their own. She’s certainly not hurting him. There are far worse parenting choices she could make.

  3. Like I said, I respect her beliefs. And I have to agree that I rather this then hurting a child, but is my opinion and yours and everyone is entitled to one. I still think is disgusting and imo I don’t get how this makes feeding any helthier. Hey, you never know, maybe she knows something I don’t know!

  4. I did not watch the video, but it was detailedly described for me. What I don’t get is this, even if you decide to chew the food, why let him eat it directly from your mouth? Why not put it in a little bowl for him to eat with his fingers or utensils? The mouth the mouth part is what I find odd and frankly– if it is as described– a bad idea long term. Can someone who thinks the “mom’s saliva” is good philosophy explain why this is the method?

  5. Someone essentially assist to make severely articles I’d state. This is the very first time I frequented your web page and to this point? I amazed with the research you made to create this actual post amazing. Magnificent job!
