Quote Of The Day: Ashley Judd Lashes Out At Critics
Posted on April 10, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Ashley Judd had to do a lot of promotional work last month, between the debut of her new TV show, ‘Missing,’ and the release of her new book. A lot of people started talking about her very round face (she actually had a sinus infection and had to take heavy medications to be able to travel and fulfill her promotional obligations). Now Ashley has responded in an eloquent essay for The Daily Beast. Here are excerpts:
The Conversation about women’s bodies exists largely outside of us, while it is also directed at (and marketed to) us, and used to define and control us…We are described and detailed, our faces and bodies analyzed and picked apart…
…[M]y personal practice is to ignore what is written about me…However, the recent speculation and accusations in March feel different… I choose to address it because the conversation was pointedly nasty, gendered, and misogynistic…
Why was a puffy face cause for such a conversation in the first place? How, and why, did people participate? … What is the gloating about? What is the condemnation about? What is the self-righteous alleged “all knowing” stance of the media about? How does this symbolize constraints on girls and women, and encroach on our right to be simply as we are, at any given moment?
You can read Ashley’s entire essay here. Do you think she has a point?

Why in the world is she preaching and trying to sound so self-righteous when she’s a woman that’s tooooo terrified to deal with her own natural face. She has bought into the myth that old is bad, ugly, wrong and changed her face based on HER insecurites. Now she’s trying to deflect the conversation away from her own self (dislike if not hate). Get over yourself lady. It’s obvious that you’re as insecure and self-loathing as the day is long. Deal with that 1st before you lash out at others. Change must begin within first. You’re welcome. I’m glad we could have this little chat.
Bi-Polar MUCH…I think she protests too much…She did it and looks JACKED!
Neither Kitt nor Kate bothered to read the essay in it’s entirety obviously and, ironically, display exactly the behavior depicted.
