Country favorite Miranda Lambert recently opened up to Parade Magazine in an exclusive interview about her hubby, “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton, how the two are going to spend their one-year anniversary and her growing up Texan. Here are some highlights:

On being a woman in country music…

“Right now it seems like the girls are drawing more attention to country music. The tides are turning a bit. We are popular music now. Every other genre is starting to come over to our genre now because it’s the cool one! I think the females are leading that, and I have to give a lot of that credit to Taylor Swift for having crossover fans come our way.”

On going against her husband for Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards on June 6…

“We definitely have friendly competition, but we’re just lucky that we get to celebrate together. We are so happy for each other because both of our careers are going so well.”

On celebrating their one-year anniversary…

“We just like to be really chill. We like riding four-wheelers, driving back roads, and going fishing. If we’re at home, we’re usually outside. It’s very rare that we’re home together, so we were excited that our anniversary was actually just going to be sitting at our house.”

On her Texas upbringing…

“We’re a little bit more proud than other people. There’s just something about that Texas spirit. We’re proud of our state and proud of who we are and just a little bit snooty about it, but I think it’s OK!”
