Now THIS is a shocker!David Beckham, soccer legend and someone who was very involved in helping London’s bid to get the Summer Olympics, will not be participating in it as an athlete. He was not selected for the British Olympic Soccer Team (Team GB squad), although he did make the larger squad and was even part of the Olympic torch handover ceremony last month. David said in a statement:
“Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad. Like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”
This must be a great disappoint. However, there were only three slots left for players over the age of 23 to make Team GB, so David’s odds were slim, but there’s no question the field won’t look quite as good without Beckham. David’s handling it with real class, though. Good for him!
