Something tells me that, no matter what, Scientology is going to figure prominently in the Tom Cruise – Katie Holmes divorce. TMZ reports that the reason Katie filed for divorce and wants sole custody of Suri is because Katie does not want her daughter shipped off to Scientology’s Sea Organization, according to “sources close to Katie.” From what’s described below, this could be a “parenting practice” that the court scrutinizes pretty closely.

Sea Org, as it is known, is where the highest levels of Scientology are taught and kids as young as five can be sent to live there … without their parents — and our sources say Tom is a big fan.
Our sources say Katie and Tom had been arguing over Suri’s indoctrination into Scientology — and we’re told the Sea Org was the flashpoint. The Sea Org has been often compared to a boot camp and several ex-Scientologists (including Oscar winner Paul Haggis) have been outspoken against its military-like conditions…

According to the official Scientology website, members of Sea Org sign “a one-billion-year pledge to symbolize their eternal commitment to the religion and it is still signed by all members today.”

Apparently once Katie began dating Tom she got an assistant who was from Scientology’s Sea Org. The assistant accompanied Katie to an interview for W magazine, and the writer described Katie’s assistant as ”cold-eyed.” Katie reportedly felt the only way to keep Suri from being sent to Sea Org was to divorce Tom and get sole custody. Personally, I don’t know WHAT to think, although if this is true, I would feel like Katie does. Do you believe it?

Josh Lucas surprised us all a few months ago when he announced that he had married and he and his bride, Jessica, were expecting their first child. Well, the baby is here! Josh and Jessica welcomed Noah Rev Maurer on Friday, June 29. Noah weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs, 4 oz in New York City.

Josh is a Hollywood celeb who bucked the current tradition of, um, unique baby names and went with something traditional. I like it! I don’t know if the “Maurer” is a second middle name or if Josh’s legal last name is Maurer (Lucas could be a stage name?). Congratulations to the new parents!

Katy Perry has never been shy when it comes to sharing her personal life. In fact, once her new film hits theaters later this week, her fans will get an even closer look at her life, including the moment when she found out that Russell Brand had filed for divorce.

“I was convulsing a little bit … I still have to find the balance, I had to separate my personal from my professional,” said Katy, who was about to take the stage when she discovered the news. “As an entertainer, I knew what my job was and I shouldn’t like take it out on my audience, they’ve always been there for me.”

Though Katy’s much-talked about divorce is included in the film, it’s not the only intimate moment that the “Wide Awake” singer brings to light.

“You see so much footage of me as a young kid, as 18, speaking to the camera telling the camera, this is what I want to do, this is where I want to go, this is what I want to achieve in life, it’s very surreal to be looking back at that and going … ‘Oh, well I’ve done it.’ “
