Lifetime has remade the classic movie (based on a play) ‘Steel Magnolias‘ with an African-American cast. Queen Latifah stars at M’Lynn along with Alfre Woodardas Ouiser, Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Adepero Oduye as Annelle, and Condola Rashad, the Tony-nominated, real-life daughter of Phylicia, as Shelby.
In the movie, these roles were played by: Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. Hollywood is remaking everything these days, so it’s not a surprise they’d remake ‘Steel Magnolias,’ but the idea of remaking it with a different racial group is a new twist. How does this preview look to you? Lifetime will air ‘Steel Magnolias’ in the fall.
