It looks like Eric Dane is saying good-bye to Seattle Grace. After six years of steaming up the small-screen as Dr. Mark Sloan (a.k.a. McSteamy) on Grey’s Anatomy, the actor has decided to depart the medical drama to pursue other opportunities.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone at ‘Grey’s', ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” said Eric to TVLine. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”
Unlike previous Grey’s exits, there wasn’t any behind-the-scenes drama. In fact, creator Shonda Rhimes admits that she and Eric conversed about how his storyline should end.
“After much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end,” said Rhimes. “We’re a big family here at Grey’s with a long history together and Eric will always remain an important part of our family.”
After last season’s shocking finale, I’m enticed to see where the ninth season will pick up on Sept. 27! Grey’s fans, are you sad to see McSteamy go?
