The New Judging Panel For “The X Factor” Sit Down For New Interview With TV Guide

It looks like the ratings race is officially on for the three reality singing competition shows that have mostly all new judging panels. (I’m still hoping that Kanye West is going to join Mariah Carey over at “American Idol.” Gosh what I would do to see that happen!) The folks from “The X Factor” joined together though to give an exclusive sit-dwon interview for TV Guide. Here’s a few snippets of what they said:
Simon Cowell on replacing Paula Abdul: “I think there was too much history with me and Paula. I adore her … but it just felt like that relationship was too steeped in American Idol history.”
L.A. Reid on the new additions: “I think Simon really nailed it. In the time I’ve spent with both Britney and Demi, I’m impressed with their ability to really identify greatness and talent.”
Simon Cowell on hiring judges for a vocal competition show: “It’s quite difficult sometimes when you’ve got singers judging other singers, because they can be selfish. And I’ve watched this very carefully; these two (Britney and Demi) want to find a star.”
Britney Spears on the new panel: “We’re the shizzle!”
Demi Lovato on joining the show: “I really feel like being the first young judge on any of these vocal competition shows is a lot of pressure, but at the same time, it’s great because I get to bring in a perspective from the audience that’s around my age.”
Britney Spears on contestants auditioning with her songs: “It was flattering that they would try to do my songs, but most of them weren’t really that great.”
Simon Cowell on revamping the groups portion of the show: “If there’s any good group in history, they never find each other – somebody has to sit them down and say you, you, you and you actually should work together. And I have done it in the past very successfully. If we think it’s the right thing to do again this year, I would do it. So watch this space.”
Simon Cowell on competing with The Voice, which returns this fall: ”We are competing directly with them. They laid down a challenge. So you have to roll your sleeves up when someone lays down a challenge. I think we’re all in a similar vein and whoever deserves to win deserves to win. You just put on the best possible show you can.”
