jessica simpson's trainer shares her workout strategies

Jessica Simpson has made no secret of the fact it was hard to lose the baby weight after she had Maxwell. As Weight Watchers’ newest celebrity spokeswoman, Jessica got her meal plan from them. She turned to her trainer, Harley Pasternak, to develop her workout routine. Harley told People about working out with Jessica.

… when I saw Jessica shortly after she gave birth, she wasn’t herself. Her body wasn’t hers. I could see how uncomfortable she was in it…

As it was too soon for us to start training, I suggested Jess start walking a little bit each day. I gave her a pedometer and realistic daily goals of 4,000 steps, then 5,000, and within weeks, she was doing 10,000 steps a day.

Once her doctor gave her permission to work out, Jess never looked back. We started with three days a week and shortly after, added a fourth day. Our first workouts were approximately 30-45 minutes long and included a 5-10 minute cardio warm up, 20-30 minutes of resistance training and flexibility, followed by 5-10 minutes of cardio cool down.

We kept the movements simple. No gymnastics. No Olympic-style lifting. Some days we focused on shoulders, the back of her thighs, and the front of her midsection. Other days we would target the back of her arms, inner thighs and the sides of her midsection. Most importantly, we made it fun!

Harley’s workouts and Weight Watchers’ eating plan seem to be working: Jessica looks great!

  1. I think so many people are being really harsh on Jessica, she is doing a fantastic job of loosing her baby weight the healthy way. Don’t get me wrong, if I was getting paid a $3 million or more to lose weight then perhaps I would have skipped the McDonalds I had today! At least she has not just went to the nearest cosmetic surgery and had lipo, she is doing a real diet that any woman can do after having a baby. Good on you Jess, keep up the good work!
