“It is clear that the proceedings were baseless and fraudulent. Your representations that you had never taken performance enhancing drugs were deliberately false. The Sunday Times is now demanding a return of the settlement payment plus interest.”
The paper is suing for more than $1.6 million. Well, you can’t really blame the paper, can you?
And the hits just keep on coming for Lance Armstrong. In 2006, London’s The Sunday Times paid the cyclist about $550,000 (600,000 pounds) after Lance sued them for libel when they printed allegations about him doping. Now that the USADA has determined that Lance did, indeed, illegally use performance-enhancing drugs, The Sunday Times is suing him. The paper wrote a letter to Lance’s lawyers and published some excerpts.
