Don’t Call Carrie Underwood’s Husband “Mr. Underwood”!

Talk about awkward. Country music star Carrie Underwood said she feels awful when people call her husband, Mike Fisher, as “Mr. Underwood.” Mike is a hockey player in the NFL. When he was traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Nashville Predators in 2011, it was tough for him. One thing that made it worse was when people would refer to him by his wife’s name.

“It made me feel awful. Somebody works real hard to make a name for themselves, a respectable name, and then it’s Mr. Underwood…

“He was drafted there [to Ottawa], and that was the only team he had ever played for. He would have played and he wanted to play for Ottawa for his whole career. He had no say in any of it. [But] I love it that he’s here.”

That is one silver lining! Carrie also isn’t the biggest fan of the new TV show ‘Nashville’ (nor Gwyneth Paltrow’s movie ‘Country Song’) because she said the “female presence” isn’t that strong in the country music scene in real life.

“‘Nashville’ is all about females; ‘Country Strong’ is all about females. It’s like there’s a hundred spots for men to be able to take, but when it comes to women – and I don’t mean to say this in a bragging way at all – but unfortunately I’m the only female this year who spent three weeks at number one on the country charts. Three weeks.”

I don’t follow country music that closely, so there could be something I’m missing, but what about Taylor Swift?

  1. Taylor Swift doesn’t do as well at country radio which isn’t surprising because her music is really pop. They hilariously had We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together as a country single and it didn’t make the top 10.

Miranda Lambert is the only other female who gets a lot of country radio play but she only spent a week at #1 in 2012 with a song called Over You. She and Carrie seem to have a lot of respect for each other, and they’re friends with Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum too.

Carrie’s right, country radio’s completely dominated by guys who sing about beers and trucks. It’s quite monotonous that way but at least Carrie & Miranda are there to shake things up. There are also some female led groups like The Band Perry and Little Big Town that makes things interesting.
