Ben Affleck has another statuette to put on an increasingly crowded mantle after last night! The ‘Argo‘ director won the main award at the DGAs (Director’s Guild Awards). This latest award makes it all the more surprising that Ben was snubbed by the Academy Awards in the Best Director category. After accepting the Best Director Award at the DGAs, Ben told USA Today:
“I’m thrilled and honored that the academy nominated me as a producer of the movie ['Argo' is up for Best Motion Picture at the Oscars]. I know our movie, we’re a little bit underdog and a little bit the little engine that could, and you take me out of it maybe helps … it’s just about that picture. I feel like it’s OK, I’m really lucky, I’m in a good place.”
At least Ben’s gracious! The DGAs may be all about the directors, but there was no shortage of star power on the red carpet. Of course Ben’s wife, Jennifer Garner, was in attendance (although they continued their tradition of not posing together on the red carpet). Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman turned out to support their ‘Les Miserables’ director, Tom Hooper. ‘Lincoln’ director Steven Spielberg also attended.
‘Zero Dark Thirty’ director Kathryn Bigelow and ‘Glee’ star Jane Lynch were chic in black pantsuits. Helen Hunt also opted for black, but she selected an elegant gown. ’Girls’ star Lena Dunham was much more colorful in her dress! And ‘Beasts of the Wild’ star Quvenzhané Wallis was absolutely adorable in pink.
