Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick Think James Wilkie May Grow Up To Be A Smoker

I didn't even know that Sarah Jessica Parker smoked. Here's what her hubby, Matthew Broderick had to say about that.

“I used to smoke cigarettes, and I still do, lately. I gave that up a long time ago, but every now and then I will fall off for a week.” And guess who's fault that might be? Broderick says SJP is “worse than me on that.” And James Wilkie is “already curious. He’ll see a cigarette butt and say, 'What is that? Why do people smoke?' I can just see the little budding gene of a smoker in there.”

And if that is true and he can already see that in his 5 year old child you would think that would guilt them into quitting!!! They shouldn't even be smoking around him period. I think I've actually lost a bit of respect for them...

My dad grew up with his parents that ONLY smoked at home...And, he NEVER smoked. Maybe little James will "wise up" when he gets older and NOT smoke!

My parents smoked when I was a kid (they've both since quit) and neither me nor my siblings have ever smoked. I don't understand the purpose. Intentionally inhaling smoke just doesn't make any sense to me!

A parent doesnt have to smoke in FRONT of their child for a child to know that their parents smoke.

Oh dear... I hate smoking. On the plus though, SJP's dress is fabulous!!

Hopefully they will discourage him from smoking, instead of thinking it's cute. I don't care if people smoke (away from me) but I also think we should teach children what a bad habit it is.

i hope they understand the harm they are doing to him by having him inhale second hand smoke. I do hope for the child's sake they are smoking outside and not where the child inhales it.

they didn't say they smoked around him, just that he saw a few butts. Could've been outside or anywhere.

You would think seeing your child's curiosity about smoking, and thinking he's at risk of becoming a smoker, would be enough to make you NEVER want to smoke again.

I wish I could have heard him say this instead of having to read it. You never know what kind of emotion is behind it. I really hope that there is further explanation, because reading this I dont know if he is being nonchalant or if its an actual concern they have for their son.

Way to joke--"budding gene of a smoker"--about your child taking up smoking in the future. How about you raise your child in a smoke-free environment and hope for the best. Smoking is NOT a result of genetics.

Matthew Broderick is a murderer.

I wouldn't go THAT far.....

Using that statement and their own line of thought..... You would think they might be worried their child would grow up to slaughter people with a car.

I hope he doesn't think that it's okay for his son to start smoking someday. I would think that no parent would want that for their child. It would be interesting to hear how he actually said it.

Above poster...a little extreme, don't ya think??

I think alot of kids are curious about smoking...even with non-smoking parents.

SJP is always talking about how smart her kid is, well if he is smart he won't pick up his parents dirty habit!

Wow aim high, Matthew. I hope this is a bogus quote and tomorrow there is a statement that he never said anything like it. If not, sad.

Not extreme, when he is actually responsible for the death of two people. I can never look at him without thinking about him walking around enjoying life, when he is the cause of others death.

Please explain?
Passerby (not verified)Passerby (not verified) said:
He caused a car crash in Ireland about 20 years ago in which two people were killed
Passerby (not verified)Passerby (not verified) said:
The **** was driving drunk, and so what if it was 20 years ago. He is still responsible for their deaths. If he had any decency he would have retired from public life. He and his horse face wife make me sick.

Oh please, if he smokes he smokes, there's a lot worse things he could do. I'm not a smoker and I know secondhand smoke it not going to kill me or anyone else. It's unreal to try to make other conform to our way of life. If we don't like the smoke, don't go around it and I'm sure they won't come hang out at my house to smoke.

Second hand smoke does kill people.  Nobody is trying to make you "conform" to their way of life.  But nobody wants to damage their lungs with your secondhand smoke when it's not their choice either.

These people have the good life, lots of money, no worries. You'd think with all that they'd want to be around as long as possible to enjoy it. They're not the sharpest knives in the drawer. By the time their son is grown up maybe they'll have a cure for lung cancer, but that won't help him if he drops dead from a sudden heart attack like my mom did from her smoking habit.

Not all people die from smoking.
