Emma Thompson Helped Maggie Gyllenhaal When She Had A Breakdown On Set It sounds like Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal formed a real friendship while filming ‘Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.’ They sat down for an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, and Maggie confided that Emma was really supportive when she had a “breakdown” on set.
“Emma gave me the best piece of advice…I had one day on the set when I was overwhelmed. I was a newlywed, I had a 2-year-old…I had quite a long scene with five children and animals, and I remember cracking a little bit.
“You’re not allowed to fall completely apart when you’re carrying a movie; you’re a professional – but I did one day, just a little bit. Nobody knew by Emma, and she said, ‘Mags, you have got to allow yourself to drop the ball, because nobody can keep all those balls in the air.’”
That is so true, isn’t it? Great advice!
Here’s what each actress loves about their husbands:
Emma (husband: Greg Wise): “Exceptional, sensuous, and overactive. I love my husband’s face and his Donald Duck impression.”
Maggie (husband: actor Peter Sarsgaard): “The big think is that we’re able to talk to each other, which I think is pretty remarkable, to shift things and change things when we need to, and we care enough about each other to try to do that. That’s an amazing thing about him. He’s better at that than I am.”

Maggie Gyllenhaal And Emma Thompson Attend Premiere Of ‘Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang’ Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson and Rhys Ifans attended the premiere of ‘Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang’ held at the Odeon West End in London. The film is a sequel to the 2005 movie ‘Nanny McPhee’. Emma Thompson actually co-wrote both films.
The movie’s U.S. release isn’t going to happen until August, but here’s the synopsis:
Nanny McPhee (Thompson) arrives to help a harried young mother (Gyllenhaal) who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war, though she uses her magic to teach the woman’s children and their two spoiled cousins five new lessons.
What do you think of their red carpet looks? I wonder if Emma volunteered to walk with the pig? She’s a good sport either way! And I almost didn’t recognize Rhys Ifans looking all dapper!
