Ignore This Post If You Are Sick Of The Madonna Adoption Story I will make this one short and sweet to avoid the hate mail. Madonna was interviewed on Dateline NBC by Meredith Vieira and had a few things to say about how the media is portraying her adoption.
On the media portrayal:
With all the chaos, pain and suffering in the world, the fact that my adoption of a child …who was living in an orphanage, you know, was the number one story for a week in the world. To me, that says more about what…our inability to focus on the real problems. And our desire to have distractions and to be consumed with people’s personal lives and gossip.”
On offering financial help to David’s father (which she says he declined):
“When I met him, I said I would be happy to facilitate with you, you know, to bring him back to your village and help you financially raise him. Madonna Holding David OR Rocco Already Hates The Paparazzi 
New pictures surfaced this morning of Madonna holding David with Lourdes and Rocco walking besides them. I read that David has a red string around his arm but haven’t found a picture to support that yet. I guess you can’t start too early getting your children into your religion.

Angelina Jolie Did Not Inspire Madonna To Adopt Madonna wants to make it clear that Angelina Jolie had no influence on her decision to adopt a child from Africa. That must be so annoying (hey, I’m guilty of the association as well). Angelina is getting a lot of press for Madonna’s life decision. While on Oprah, Madonna said she MET Angelina but never spoke about the process with her.
“I’ve never had any discussions with Brad or Angelina about adoption. I’ve never actually met Angelina Jolie.My husband is good friends with Brad because they’ve worked together, and we had dinner with Brad after Angelina had adopted her baby from Ethiopia but we never had a discussion about it. I never sought their advice and I never considered adopting a child from Los Angeles, nor did I discuss with anyone but my husband and our social worker, who did the home study, exactly where it is we would like to adopt the child from.”
So what DID turn her attention to Africa? It was meeting Live Aid and Live 8 organizer Sir Bob Geldof.
“That (performance at Live 8) kind of made me turn my focus to Africa in a more specific way and educate myself about the statistics about what’s going on all over Africa.”

Madonna is going to speak about David’s adoption and answer all the questions that are keeping us up at night. And the Dixie Chicks are going to defend their controversal concert that changed the way the public looked at them forever.

David’s Father Didn’t Understand Madonna Was Taking His Son Yet another twist in this never ending adoption story. David’s father, Yohane Banda is now upset that he let Madonna take his son. He didn’t understand the finality of it. He thought she would just pay for his education and then send him back home. I feel terrible for Yohane because I genuinely believe he didn’t understand David would be taken away for good. That must be a very scary feeling to realize you just signed the rights away to your child.
“I was never told that adoption means that David will no longer be my son… If I was told this, I would not have allowed the adoption. I want more clarification on the adoption. I would prefer that David goes back to the orphanage where I can see him any time I want, rather than send him away for good. I cannot read or write so I relied on what (government) officials told me, that the papers said Madonna would look after the child the way the orphanage planned to educate him. What we agreed with Madonna was that she looks after my child until he finishes school and becomes independent. Then he comes back to me.” (source)
